Bow down to Queen B!
Beyoncé's new single "Pretty Hurts" is a beautiful piece of work that you need to hear. For those of you who don't live under a rock, you probably already own Beyoncé's self-titled album. Those that own the album are not new listeners to this track.
The 7 minute music video portrays the song's message perfectly. The introduction is two minutes long. The video begins with B staring at her reflection in the mirror. The screen fades to Miss 3rd Ward wearing a brown/beige dress.
She looks flawless! But are we surprised? Not really. Back to the music video—yes, she's a pageant girl. Fast forward to the next scene, we're now in a room filled with pageant girls. The girls are wearing gemmed up body suits, spray tanning, and doing their hair and make up.
Then we get to see her putting on some petroleum jelly on her teeth. Do models really do all these things? Man, that looks like a tough life.
She has all these trophies, the beauty, the only thing that seems to be missing is, happiness.
Even through it's not directly said to us, we can see the indirect message on eating disorders in the video. Pretty Hurts.
Next up, it's show time. Miss 3rd Ward gets called up to the stage. She sings an acapella version of "Pretty Hurts." It is perfection, flawless, and beautiful.
Next scene, the song finally starts. Preparation for the pageants are still on the schedule. Need we say more? Just watch the video for yourself. The message is beautiful. We don't want to ruin the rest of the video for you all. But happiness does not come with money or appearance!
"My aspiration is to be happy."
