Ladies Night is coming to VH1 soon this year, as it does every year (except for an inexplicable four-year absence between 2004 and 2008, in which all the good woman singers must have been off to war or something), with the return of VH1 Divas, the channel's celebration of all things female in music. In addition to the previously announced roster of performers—Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Kelly Rowland among them—the channel announced today that the lineup had been expanded to now also include Kelly Clarkson, Pitbull, Melanie Fiona and Metric.
So that should be a...wait, hold up. One of those names seems like it shouldn't belong in that lineup. (Well, two if you count Metric, because how the hell did Metric get on that lineup?) Now we know Pitbull is a total ham, and game for just about any public appearance that allows him to mug at a camera for three-and-a-half minutes, but the Divas specials tend to be predominantly female affairs. so we're not really sure what he's doing on the lineup. (For the record, Pitbull wouldn't exactly the Susan B. Anthony of VH1 Divas—Boyz II Men and Travie McCoy both appeared at last year's show, albeit in supporting roles during medley segments.)
Just there to support house DJ and "We Own the Night" co-star Havana Brown? About to debut a double-entrendre-laden cover of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman"? Looking for any opportunity to hit on Demi Lovato? Eyebrow-raising as this all is, in the end, we celebrate both VH1 for not sticking to gender norms in their definition of diva-dom, and Pitbull himself for embracing his inner Mrs. 305. DON'T STOP THE PAAARRRRR-TAYYYYYY!!!!
