By her awards-show standards, Katy Perry's Grammy performance was relatively understated—no giant fruit or oversized phallic props. As she was winched skywards during the ballad "Not Like the Movies," though, the tasteful wedding photos projected behind couldn't distract from the fact that her voice seemed overmatched by the material—and, worse, that she was compensating by bellowing. A return to the ground and a rendition of "Teenage Dream" injected some energy, but everything from the modified cheerleader outfits to the dancers wearing them felt a little lifeless. More fireworks next time, or at least "Last Friday Night."
