Ah, was it really nearly ten years ago that Jessica Simpson was mixing up chicken and tuna fish and thinking that buffalo wings actually contained buffalo meat? Much has transpired since then for Jessica Simpson, divorcing Nick Lachey, dating Tony Romo, wearing short shorts (and presumably acting) in The Dukes of Hazard, and getting pregnant for about four years, and apparently it's enough life experience that she's decided it's time to put her life back on TV again.
But wait—there's a catch this time. Jess's new show is going to be about her, and star her, but it's not actually gonna be a reality show. Rather, it will be a scripted comedy produced by Nick Bakay—who between his work as an ESPN commentator, writing Paul Blart: Mall Cop, voicing Salem on Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and Norbett on The Angry Beavers) and now this, really must have the most random-ass resume in Hollywood—airing on NBC. ""We are thrilled to team up with the multitalented Jessica Simpson to bring this new sitcom to life on NBC as she is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," says NBC pres Ben Silverman. (What? She's not even a redhead!)
"I am so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy," says Simpson of the thus-untitled show. "I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life -- so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!" And Jessica will probably appreciate being in on the joke this time, we imagine.
