Is it really possible that neither Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber have yet made an acting appearance in a feature film? Two of the most outsized pop personalities of recent years, you'd think that sooner or later they'd have made their way to the big screen. Well, if not yet, then certainly soon, as Barry Sonnenfeld, director of Men in Black III, has confirmed that the two pop stars will be cameoing in the upcoming Will Smith / Tommy Lee Jones threequel, appearing as aliens sitting on a surveillance board. Explains Sonnenfeld:
In this [film] there are a few people that you'll see up on the surveillance board including Lady GaGa, Tim Burton, who probably knows more about aliens than I do, and let's see who else... Justin Bieber...The challenge is getting celebrities that are famous, will give you permission and won't be like 'Who's that guy?' in ten years.
Well, Gaga and Bieber certainly pass the smell test on the first and third qualifier, and we assume that Sonnenfeld squared the second if he's already whetting the public appetite for this. Between these cameos, the presence of Will Smith, and that awesomely bizarre Pitbull theme song, this movie just might be the pop event of the summer. Assuming that Mad Men doesn't end up resurrecting "Zou Bisou Bisou," anyway.
