One of the best things about Ke$ha's continued comeback? The prospect of ever-more-bizarro live performances from the Dirty Girl. Who could forget the immortal Saturday Night Live version of "TiK ToK," which came complete with a laser light show and a dramatic flourishing of an American flag cape?
Sadly, though Ke$ha's been bringing the crazy in her interviews recently, the promotional run-up to Warrior has so far not yielded the audiovisual thrilltaculars of previous cycles. Case in point, Tuesday's Today Show performances, in which Our Kesh dialed down the madness for the early morning crowd. Of course, this being Ke$ha, she was still carried aloft by a trio of backup dancers.
Anyone else think Ke$ha might want to cool it on the tribal makeup, though? After the whole No Doubt kerfuffle, "I didn't know people would be offended" is not a good excuse anymore. But we are digging her Skrillex braids, so maybe it evens out:
One bright spot: Because the Today Show interview format does not reward making up outrageous stories about ghosts, the question-time segments give us a brief glimpse of the "real" Ke$ha underneath the glitter. Surprise, she comes off very well: thoughtful, charming, self-deprecating. Maybe we're just transfixed by her voice. Who knew Ke$ha had a boarding-school accent?
We were also reminded that Ke$ha has a memoir out today! Everybody buy it; we need this to be her Dreams From My Father.
