First there were YouTube invites to the Marine Ball for Friends With Benefits costars, then charming songs asking for platonic drinks with a Muppet-loving comedic actor. Now rigorous Facebook and Twitter campaign can potentially land a celebrity guest for your high school prom. 18-year-old cancer patient Kevin McGuire made Taylor Swift the date du jour for dances everywhere when he asked the singer to his upcoming event through a Facebook message (and a lot of footwork from sister Victoria). While Taylor had to decline due to scheduling, she made sure to send an equal if not better offer to make up for things. "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift responded via Facebook, just as kids are wont to do these days. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up and I'd like you to be my date. Love, Taylor." Cue someone else's surprised face for a change.
The New Jersey native is fighting his second bout with leukemia, currently undergoing a round of chemotherapy at Philadelphia Children's Hospital, with plans of attending his senior prom on June 1, the same day as his 19th birthday. Philadelphia's CBS news affiliate caught McGuire on camera receiving the official invite from Taylor. "I don't know what to say. I was just trying not to throw up," McGuire explained. "Taylor, I would love to go with you. Thank you." Better get used to holding statues! And thus the Taylor Swift charm offensive of forever and always continues. Whatever your thoughts on the 22-year-old, it's hard be critical of someone who is that generous with her time and her plus ones. Expect more to be written—and probably filmed—leading up to the couple's big night on April 1. Watch below.
