When is a Madonna tweet not a Madonna tweet? When it's tweeted during Lady Gaga's performance on SNL, and it reads like this:
Or perhaps when it reads like this:
Fighting words, especially when directed at an artist with devout fans. The subject of all this ire? Patrick Carney, of the blues-rock band The Black Keys. There's not a ton of overlap between Black Keys fans and Lady Gaga fans, but Twitter is a great equalizer and open forum (just ask Anthony Weiner), so it's not surprising that at least one mutual follower would find it eventually and let gush the hose of vitriol.
And we do mean vitriol. A few samplings, semi-ironically retweeted by Carney:
"YOU ARE A BITCH YOU DUMBFUCK! GAGA ALL THE WAY! FUCK OFF U BASTARD!"
"@patrickcarney, you need to shut the hell up. Just stop talking and go rot on a street curb somewhere you old hobo thing."
"Hey, @patrickcarney. Go fuck yourself and run into a damn bus. You're fucking pathetic. Ke$ha even doesn't like you."
Level of discourse aside (this is probably not what Lady Gaga had in mind when she said "rejoice and love yourself today"), we have to say we're Team Gaga in this case. Not because we're biased Lady Gaga fans or anything, but because you could easily go to a Black Keys show and tweet "Muddy Waters killed it!" If you live in glass houses and appropriate the blues....
