2NE1's CL has been hard at work on her first English-language album for the past six months under the watchful eye of superstar manager Scooter Braun. She's already been in the studio with a wide range of producers, from Diplo to Sean Garrett, but her next collaborator is easily her biggest yet: Florence + the Machine!
Hip-hop songwriter Bobby Brackins, who wrote Tinashe's 2 On and Chris Brown's Loyal, revealed in a new interview that the K-pop star recently called him to hit the studio with her and Florence to work on some new music.
"I'm friends with this girl CL now, she's like the biggest artist in Korea," he told Noisey. "She hit me up to go work on some songs with Florence and the Machine! I couldn't do it because it was the night before we were flying out to New York but that would have been crazy to work with Florence..."
He added, "I've worked with CL before! She's dope. but I love Florence ... we're so different though, I never thought me and her could be able to merge. Random collaborations are happening."
Considering that CL is a rapper, Florence is an indie singer, and Brackins is a songwriter known for penning trendy urban hits, I'd guess that they were probably planning to follow the Iggy Azalea Fancy formula for their collaboration, just less mainstream.
This news will probably come as a relief to longtime CL fans who might have been worried that the 2NE1 superstar wouldn't receive enough for support for her U.S. debut. Judging by the list of collaborators we've heard about so far, it's pretty clear that Scooter Braun is backing CL 100% to make this crossover a huge success.
