To snowball off his recent flood of media exposure, A$AP Rocky has once again teamed up with Vice for "Wassup," his highly NSFW video that most notably borrows one iconic locale for its chorus: Tony Montana's bathtub from Scarface. The entire clip is not solely a recreation of the beloved gangster film, but rather a celebration of his hometown paired with intended homages to Belly, Enter The Dragon, The Warriors and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, some of the A$AP Crew leader's personal favorites. The majority are less obvious to the untrained cinephile, save for the purple haze that hovers over the Manhattan skyline, whose dual purpose serves to recall the colors of the Candy Man's harem of pint sized servants, as well as the group's party favor of choice. With a slow burning, haunting bass the video delivers a hazy, understated feel of '90s hip-hop. Whether A$AP and friends are holding court in front of their house or congregating around Brooklyn Bridge Park to pour out 40s, they're still a lot cooler than the rest of us. Looks like that takeover we've been waiting for is officially on schedule. Watch below.
