Last night's Album of the Year win by the Arcade Fire could be called "unexpected." The band's third full-length The Suburbs beat out efforts by pop heavyweights like Ladys Gaga and Antebellum; the record's on an independent label; there aren't many TMZ camera crews chasing after their many members. The band has a relatively low profile compared to the Biebers and Perrys who were passed over for awards during the telecast; the instant reactions online from people who had never heard of them before 11:15 p.m. ET on Sunday were so impressive that they inspired a blog of the confusionblogging, aptly called "Who Is Arcade Fire?" A sample entry:
Don't worry, Rosie. When their Broadway musical arrives in 2014 you'll find out!
Elsewhere on the Internet, there are some people who are already engaging in the backlash to the backlash to the backlash to the backlash:
(I might have missed a backlash there. Apologies.)
Of course, things could be worse for the Montreal collective as they awaken from their afterparty-bestowed hangovers; they could have angry Justin Bieber fans taking to Wikipedia to rename them Arcade Quesadilla Fire. Upsides!
