Ariana Grande is, quite simply, the most dependable hit-making star of 2014. In regards to sales, every single release has climbed to the top rungs of the iTunes singles chart, and her latest, the blistering "Best Mistake" collaboration with Big Sean, has soared to No. 1. As a sample from her forthcoming sophomore set My Everything, the track is a stark departure from "Problem" (with Iggy Azalea) and "Break Free" (featuring Zedd) but it has us itching for her album, just the same.
Of course, this isn't the first meet-up of the two musicians. Previously, they joined voices on "Right There" (from Grande's debut disc Yours Truly) and "Problem" (yes, that whispering male voice is BS). Another thing that makes "Best Mistake" work so well is the stripped production, only possessing a piano-centric arrangement. There is a bit of an R&B bass going on, too, but it's rather unlike her previous work. This is only a teaser for her album, but we smell a future single. These days, ballads are nearly a sure-fire hit as uptempo tracks.
In other news, E! News reports, via a "source," that Sean and Grande are an item, recently caught making out in a movie theater. Oh, Naya Rivera can't be happy about that. "They have been friends since they made the song together. They have been spending more time together and recently have been getting very close. They are both doing great," the report reads, noting they were spotted kissing during a screening of The Purge. Take with a grain of salt, of course.
