Bill O'Brien's Playlist: Nostalgia Meets High-Octane Beats

The professional lacrosse player lists his top song selections to pump up before a game.

As a professional lacrosse defenseman for the Buffalo Bandits, Bill O'Brien has always looked to his playlist to pump up before a game or elevate his workouts.

After receiving a scholarship to play football at Sacred Heart University, where he earned dual degrees in Business Administration and Marketing, O'Brien went on to play for the New England Black Wolves for three years. O'Brien is a Nike Athlete who's passionate about fitness and motivating others. He co-founded the brand Thompson Brothers Lacrosse and created Thrilla Nation, a brand that "aims to inspire through motivational talks, strength training, conditioning, and nutrition."

For his motivation, the Syracuse native channels his energy through Eminem's high-octane rap battles or the classic rock of Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. But O'Brien's playlist also mixes nostalgia with high-energy beats, including songs that hark back to his high school days and time spent with family. In short, O'Brien's playlist is driven by raw power and self-motivation to inspire hard work.

1. Rap Devil - Machine Gun Kelly

2. Killshot - Eminem

Songs one and two on my list have to be listened to in back-to-back order. This was an epic rap battle between the two rappers, and I love the fact that the OG Eminem showed the young buck to respect his elders, proving he's still is one of the best. I like to listen to these when I'm working out or before a game.

3. Uproar - Lil Wayne

This song is great for getting fired up as you're playing a game or getting ready!

4. No Name - NF

This is my go-to workout song. It focuses me and helps me embrace the grind and continue working hard for the things I want. NF has a way of bringing out the best in me.

5. Iconic - Logic (ft. Jaden Smith)

This song is a remix of the original from the movie Creed 2, but in my opinion, adding Logic to this song really elevates it. Logic is another artist who continually grinds to make a name for himself. I love that mentality, and that's one more reason why I enjoy the song!

6. Lucky You - Eminem, Joyner Lucas

7. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin

I love this song because it's the song that played when Thor realizes his true power in Thor: Ragnorak.

8. Shoot to Thrill - AC/DC

9. Nice for what - Drake

This song reminds me of a vacation I took with my girlfriend to San Diego. We played this song on repeat in a convertible as we enjoyed driving in the beautiful weather to Big Bear Mountain. This song always makes me feel good on long road trips.

10. Last Breath - future

This is a song you listen to during your conditioning sessions because it makes you appreciate the hard work you're putting in and reminds you it'll all be worth it.

11. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Not only did I love the 2018 movie about Queen, but this particular song used to be belted out before high school football games with my brother and a few other teammates. We would usually hit the Chinese buffet. then drive around screaming "Bohemian Rhapsody." This used to be our pregame ritual to get fired up. It worked, too. We had a great season!

12. Pop That - French Montana

13. I'm a Boss - Meek Mill ft. Rick Ross

Rick Ross is another artist that can really get me going. I love to feel the swag of this song; it makes me feel like a boss and gets me in game mode. Listen to the lyrics, the beat, and tell me you don't feel like a boss yourself!

14. Gunwalk - Lil Wayne

15. X Gon' Give It to Ya - DMX

16. Fight Night - Migos

17. Thunderstruck - AC/DC

18. Seven Nation Army - White Stripes

I really like this song because it reminds me of my big brother and high school football. This song became popular when we were playing together, and it was one of his favorites. It always brings me back to those days!
