Brisbane police believe an Australian chef murdered his girlfriend, then chopped up her body and cooked it on his stove before taking his own life.
Police visited the apartment of Marcus Volke, 28, after neighbors complained of a rotting meat smell, "like off dog food" emanating from the building.
There they found the source of the rotting meat, and it wasn’t dog food. It was his girlfriend, Mayang Prasetyo.
Cops say Volke fled from them, leaped over a balcony, and then killed himself in a nearby alley—his body was discovered crammed into a trash can.
Meanwhile, back at Marcus’ pad, police found some parts of Prasetyo's dismembered body in a pot on the stove, boiled in "a chemical stew," and other parts in trash bags, according to the Brisbane Times.
So he kills his girlfriend, chops he up, and cooks her? Wow- he must have really hated women!
Actually, no. The story gets even more bizarre. Marcus was an outspoken activist for women's rights!
Less than a month before the killing, he posted a link to a story in which a man was badly beaten-up after standing up for a group of women. He commended the victim with the words, "champion mate".
In June, he expressed outrage that two Indian girls were hanged after being gang raped and that a minister in India's ruling party dismissed rape as a "social crime".
He also regularly posted petitions calling to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the violence in Gaza.
Anyway, back to Brisbane. Neighbors told police the couple had just moved in recently, and had been arguing loudly a week before the gruesome discovery was made.
Indonesian born Prasetyo, 27, reportedly met Volke while they were both working as chefs on a cruise ship.
