"Ain't nothin' like a Bad Boy remix!" Too true—it's been 18 years since Diddy invented the remix (close enough) with the classic posse cut second-take on Craig Mack's "Flava in Ya Ear," and every year or so since, Diddy hops another remix to remind us of this fact. In 2012, it's Miguel's "Adorn," lead single off his recently released (and highly Popdust-and-everyone-else-recommended) album Kaleidoscope Dream.
The remix, helped by DJ Tedsmooth, rides an always-on-time sample from Sylvia Striplin's "You Can't Turn Me Away," most memorably reappropriated by the Notorious B.I.G. and Lil' Kim on Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s '90s hip-hop gem "Get Money." "Adorn" is one of the year's best singles as is, but this remix, featuring guest verses Diddy and French Montana, is nearly as blissful, as Miguel's vocal fits seamlessly over the classic beat, and Diddy and Montana both sound like they're having a blast, even working in a reference to Biggie's classic "Damn, why she wanna stick me for my paper?" lyric.
If you hear a better remix this week, please inform us ASAP so we can work it into our late-Friday work-release party playlist.
