For all you can complain about Coachella, many acts now seem to be using it as a venue to make big statements. Bauhaus started it in 2005, Daft Punk went big in 2006, and Prince upped the ante in 2008. This year's big sensation seems to be Kanye West with his dancer-and-crane augmented spectacle, but Arcade Fire turned in a fiery set too, one that ended with a ball drop—simultaneously recalling LCD Soundsystem's recent Madison Square Garden show, the Flaming Lips' mid-aughts sets, and, uh, Phish.
