Bieber, Carly Rae, Boy Bands and Solo Weirdos in the Teen Choice Award Nominations

Man, those Teen Choice Awards really have their finger on the pulse, huh? Justin Bieber's new songs "Die in Your Arms" and "All Around the World" are about a combined three weeks old between them, but both of them scored nominations for the upcoming FOX-televised awards, for "Choice Love Song" and "Choice Summer Song," respectively. Bieber scored three nominations total at the awards, the most of any pop artist—tied, of course, with Our Girl Carly Rae Jepsen, who'll be fighting her mentor in "Choice Love Song" with that song of hers that everyone loves, as well as his professional mentor, Usher.

Elsewhere, the nominations reflect two recent trends in Top 40—boy bands and weird dudes. The Wanted and One Direction also notch a couple nods each, including going up against one another in the Breakout Group category. In the analogue Breakout Artist category, the two artists behind most unlikely 21st-century chart-topper "Somebody That I Used to Know," Gotye and Kimbra, are nominated, as is the artist behind the second-most unlikely #1, fun. All in all, it seems like a pretty accurate summary of the first six months of 2012 pop—though we don't really remember Breakout Group nominee Eli Young Band playing quite so huge a role.

Here's the complete list of pop-related nominees. Shoutout to Rosie and Sophia Grace!
