Remember when "crunk&b" was a thing back in the mid-2000s? If you do, then you should remember Brooke Valentine and her feisty Lil Jon-assisted hit, "Girlfight." Despite garnering tonnes of press at the time for her aggressive image and releasing one of the best urban-pop albums of the past ten years (the critically-acclaimed Chain Letter), issues with her record label stunted Valentine's burgeoning career, and eventually she just disappeared from the mainstream scene altogether.
Well, now she's coming back -- as a cast member on the first season of VH1's next Love & Hip-Hop spin-off, Love & Hip-Hop: L.A.
Other confirmed cast members include radio DJ, Yesi Ortiz, nobody rapstress, Hazel-E, and men's mag model, Bria Myles, but apparently producers are still scrambling to find a bigger star to headline the show. You know, someone on the level of Rasheeda or K. Michelle, which really shouldn't be that hard to find.
Fingers crossed that whoever it is starts some mess with Brooke and gets clocked, "Girlfight" style. Natalie Nunn sounds like a good choice, no?
