The vile rapper known as Common made his appearance at the White House for Michelle Obama's poetry evening on Wednesday, and withheld from leading a violent revolution or even so much as breaking one of Eleanor Roosevelt's most precious dishes (which took some serious willpower, we're sure). Instead of what Sarah Palin and her Fox News cohorts feared would happen if such a miscreant took the stage at Obama's house, the socially conscious artist delivered a subdued, a cappella freestyle about overcoming obstacles ("One King's dream, he was able to Barack us"), pocket square intact. Also, he name-checked both Oprah and Jesus Christ, so everyone can rest easy now—at least until Will Smith comes to town.
