Brooklyn rockers The New Apollos aren't afraid to cause a little commotion. Heading into the summer, the trio have laid plans to unleash a string of three brand new EPs, beginning with In the Shade. The project, which premieres exclusively today on Popdust, is a mesmerizing drink of psychedelic rock, airy moods and garage-pop and also arrives on all digital retailers. The band - made up of Neill Maccallum (vocals, guitar, piano), Karen Walker (keys) and Isobel Ward (bass) - takes the lead on everything, from songwriting to engineering to mixing the tunes. The work is tremendous, and when left to their own devices, the resulting product is something you could never have imagined.
"We engineered, mixed and wrote all the material over 2-3 years, while working with lots of talented musicians," singer Maccallum shares with us of the EP. "We tracked either at home, in the studio or at our rehearsal space in Williamsburg BK, which has now become a condo. We tried to be honest here, both with our subject matter and lyrics, and also with instrumentation. We wanted to keep it lo-fi and crunchy, but clean at the same time."
The New Apollos are expected to drop the next two EPs at the end of June and July. The group will play a premiere party to celebrate In the Shade this Monday (May 30) at New York City's Mercy Lounge. Find out details on Facebook.
