Surprise, surprise - Frozen has become the highest-grossing animated film ever made!

The Disney hit every single parent on earth has had more than enough of reached the $1.072 billion mark this weekend after opening in Japan, reports Variety.

This knocks previous record-breaker Toy Story 3, which grossed $1.063 billion in 2010, off the top spot.

So why is Frozen so very successful? Well, it has all the usual Disney Suspects (cute characters, great songs, romance, etc) but also a very surprising heroine in Kristen Bell's character Princess Anna. Anna is not your usual perfect Disney girl, and we have Kristen to thank for that. The actress insisted on having Anna reworked to be more realistic and relatable, and the result was perfection.

“It was very much a collaboration. It wasn’t that I asked them to rewrite her so much as I offered up wild suggestions around every corner. It was a surprisingly collaborative process, actually, because they wanted the movie to be very truthful,” Kristen told The Daily Beast. “And I was put in a position where they were ready to hear my opinions on the subject, and that isn’t always why an actor gets hired. So I was lucky.”

In honor of Frozen's success, let's take another look at John Travolta butchering Idina Menzel's name at the 2014 Oscars - because it truly is the gift that keeps on giving!
