Game Thrones prostitute actress Josephine Gillan credits the hit show with turning her life around and getting her off the streets—it's a story of art imitating life
Prostitution rumors dog many a Hollywood starlet.
But it's rare that a hooker-turned screen siren comes clean about her scandalous past.
Not Game of Thrones star Josephine Gillan however.
She owns that shit, and it's more refreshing than a face full of liquid babies.
The actress worked as a prostitute before the hit HBO show, and her expertise in the field may have earned her the part.
Gillan debuted on GOT in season 2 as apprentice prostitute Marei—and, in her very first scene she learned how to fake an climax.
Before moving into regular mainstream acting, Gillan made adult film movies under the name Sophie O'Brien.
Her childhood was marked by sexual abuse and drug and alcohol addiction.
She attended 24 different elementary schools because her mother was constantly trying to escape a violent relationship she was in.
Gillan subsequently entered foster care at the age of 12.
Now she's one of the few characters who has managed to live for 6 seasons!
She tells Mail on Sunday:
Game Of Thrones' saved me from a life of prostitution, and has made me a much stronger person. They were looking for young women with natural breasts and no tattoos, who didn't mind being filmed naked, so I immediately sent in a picture.
They wrote back that they wanted me and I was thrilled because it was an amazing opportunity to do some proper acting.
But I had no idea how much it would change my life.
Critics widely pan GOT for it's ultra violence, nudity, steamy sex scenes and incest, murder and torture storylines.
But, not surprisingly, Gillan says the show's fans are nowhere near as uptight.
She says the most frequently asked question from fans is if she's actually having sex in her brothel scenes:
People ask me all the time if we are at it for real and I reply, 'Are dragons or zombies real?' The reality is that the male actors are so uncomfortable doing sex scenes that I can usually feel them shaking nervously under me.
I think they suffer from performance anxiety, because they are almost naked and there are usually about 30 crew members on set.
Meanwhile, Gillan is making the most of her new found fame and launching a film career.
The 27-year-old starts shooting a movie in Mexico later this summer, as well as starring in 2 independent films.
