When budding star Alex Newell first appeared on The Glee Project nearly three years ago, he showed remarkable restraint and powerful vocals. His acting, too, was mind-blowing, and he went on to become one of the finest additions to Fox's now-fledging TV musical, Glee. He ripped our hearts out in last year's fiercely emotional "The End Of Twerk" episode, in which his character Unique faced unimaginable bullying. Luckily, he came out on top, better for the experience.
Of course, Newell has plenty other things going for him, including a forthcoming debut album. He first signed a major label deal last fall. The yet-untitled set will be delivered by Glee executive music producer Adam Anders and the Deep Well Records imprint (under the Atlantic Records umbrella). "While working with Alex on 'Glee,' I immediately realized how broad and unique his talent was and knew that he would be a great addition to the Deep Well/Atlantic Records family," Anders shared to The Hollywood Reporter, when the exciting news first broke.
Newell expressed his excitement for the prospects, too, "I am thrilled to join this new family and take another step in my career. Singing is my passion and to now have the opportunity to make my own music is a dream come true! I can't thank my new Atlantic and Deep Well family enough for welcoming me with open arms."
Now, fans have a first listen to new Newell music, a fantastically dizzying cover of Sigma's No. 1 UK hit "Nobody To Love," originally a bootleg remix of Kanye West's "Bound 2." No release date has been set for Newell's expected debut record, but stay tuned for updates!
