Plastic surgery today is kind of like the Spice Girls in the '90s. Everybody's doing it, but everyone's denying it. But plastic surgery is becoming commonplace in our society, so why did supermodel Gisele Bundchen go to such lengths to cover it up-- literally and figuratively?
Gisele recently received some negative press when she had her breasts and eyelids done. The negativity didn't stem from her having the surgeries, but instead it was provoked by her politically incorrect (and flawed) disguise when hiding from the paparazzi: a Burqa with open-toed sandals-- oops!
In an article on the Huffington Post today, top New York plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Tornambe discusses Gisele's bizarre attempt at hiding her surgeries, and reassures us that there's nothing to be ashamed of if you're a mom who wants to regain her pre-pregnancy figure, or if you want to maintain your youth with a little botox every now and then.
Looking and feeling good is important, and the desire to look youthful is understandable today. Widely accepted procedures to better one's appearance should be celebrated, not frowned upon. So why is Gisele buggin!? Dr. Tornambe rightfully expresses: "Big deal, cosmetic surgery in her native Brazil is more common than getting a manicure."
The media is also to blame when they trot around young beautiful models and movie stars for us to admire. The problem is, many of our idols have had the help of Photoshop and top plastic surgeons to keep up their striking appearances. Why should we beat ourselves up for wanting to look and feel our best as well?
