#TeamDuff, we finally made it through the rain. After days and days and days of counting down, Hilary Duff's comeback single "Chasing The Sun" is here, albeit a leak. The breezy anthem, which debuted late last week at a Marquee nightclub event, mixes Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun" and Colbie Caillat's "Brighter Than The Sun" (or "Bubbly") but possesses a more youthful, accessible glow.
The track, coincidentally co-written by Caillat, Jason Reeves and Toby Gad, officially hits iTunes on Tues. (July 29) and serves as the lead-in to her forthcoming album, expected this fall.
"Chasing The Sun" is somewhat of a departure from many of Duff's previous hits ("Come Clean," "Why Not," "Stranger"), far more indie-folk than dance-club diva or bubblegum pop princess. It shows a more mature side to the singer, without completely abandoning her roots. It's a welcome exploration and a refreshing undertaking, as many of her female contemporaries are digging into groovy hip-hop fusions and beat-heavy production (Ariana Grande's "Break Free," Sia's "Chandelier"). It's a delightful head-bobbing offering, perfect for any gym playlist or spontaneous road trip. We, for one, can't wait to see what else Duff has up her sleeve.
