One leading media watchdog compares the 20-year-old to the late great Amy Winehouse—who tragically died in 2011 after a long battle with drugs and booze—and says they hope Miley gets help before “something goes terribly wrong.”
In an exclusive interview with Popdust, Dan Gainor, VP of Business and Culture for the Media Research Center, discusses both Miley and Justin Bieber, whose behavior has been playing out recently under the watchful gaze of the world’s media.
“While both Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber have been surrounded by scandals, the two seem entirely different,” Gainor says. “Both suffer some of the side effects of fame as media outlets literally leach off of them and every real or rumored mistake they make.
“Miley fits a disturbing pattern pushed by Hollywood where they actively try to turn young pop tarts into sleazy adults. Her drug use, provocative music and overly sexual dance moves -- like the Twerking incident -- all point in a very bad direction for her.
“It's almost impossible to look at Miley and not see the train wreck that Amy Winehouse became. Hopefully, Miley will get help before something goes terribly wrong.
“Bieber isn't as far gone as Miley. The scandals around him seen less severe and, according to a new Hollywood Reporter story, he's still trying to live his Christian faith and take advice from older, wiser celebs like Will Smith. Bieber also should be commended for donating some concert proceeds to charity for a total of $13 million.
“In an ideal world, both celebs would keep up with their performing, but skip the worst temptations and trappings of stardom.”
