The story of legendary gangsta rap group N.W.A.—a rise-and-fall tale of violence, cultural upheaval, friendship, betrayal, falling out, tragedy and some absolutely kick-ass albums and music videos—is one that certainly needs to be told. But now that it's been nearly a full generation since the group's story started (debut single "Panic Zone" was released a quarter-century ago), not only are any of the principals far too old to play themselves, but it actually might make more sense for their kids to play them instead.
Ha ha, except that it looks like there's a chance, however remote, that this might actually happen. Group mastermind Dr. Dre was confronted by a TMZ reporter outside a Los Angeles restaurant, and asked the rumors of the group's kids starring as Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube in the group's upcoming biopic (which, uh, news to us.) Rather than answer the way you might respect—with a furrowed, confused brow and a Get Off My Lawn response—Dre didn't even seem caught off-guard by the question, answering "We're talking about it...we'll see what happens."
Woah. I mean, we liked Notorious B.I.G.'s "The Sky's the Limit" video as much as anyone, but this seems like a whole other level of awesome. We don't even know if Dre, Eazy and Cube's kids can act at all—and at the very least, they probably know a whole lot less about Witnessing the Strength of Street Knowledge than their respective pops—but in a way, it might be even better if they can't. Mostly, we just want Dre and company to lock down this incredible premise into a certain reality, and we'll worry about the details from there. Is Boyz n the Hood already taken as a potential title?
