Since 1996, Alanis Morissette's signature tune "Ironic" has plagued English teachers by not linguistically fulfilling its titular promise. At long last, we've got a rewrite.
Two funny YouTubers Rachael and Eliza Hurwitz have altered Morissette's lyrics—where the situations described are, in fact, coincidental—in their video "It's Finally Ironic."
Alanis' Lyric: An old man turned 98/He won the lottery/And died the next day.
Hurwitz' Lyric: An old man turned 98/He won the lottery/And died the next day from a severe paper cut from his lottery ticket.
And so forth. What's more? Their video is a visual homage to Morissette's original video, in which multiple versions of herself get super weird in a car.
We can say we adore this video, without a hint of irony.
