Remember a few years back, when "[artist] decides to target the Nashville market" could've been a reasonable Mad Lib for every other artist's career? Those were the years, at least for fans of sorta-country music.
Jamie Lynn Spears might have a bit more of a claim than some, being born in Mississippi and all. (It counts for some amount, at least.) She played a live set of original songs (no video yet) at the Rutledge in Nashville this week, her debut in the genre. Granted, there's a vast chasm between one live set--OK, one live set and one countrified Twitter background, because tiny clues are still clues--and an actual career, but Zoey 101 was a while ago. It's about time for a pivot. Stranger artists have done it.
