Well, first off, kudos to Jordin Sparks for covering a song that isn't "Rolling in the Deep" or "Marvin's Room"—we're sure it took a lot of discipline for Sparks to resist the temptation. But with Demi Lovato's excellent ballad "Skyscraper" setting the internet on fire recently, perhaps it's time for a new trend in artist peer covers anyway. So Jordin, singing into a camera in her hotel room with what sounds like an instrumental version playing on her laptop for accompaniment, has now planted her flag on the song.
"It's amazing, Demi did an amazing job on it," said Jordin of "Skyscraper." "And I'd like to put my spin on it." Her version sounds a fair bit like Demi's, except a lot bigger-sounding (the difference between an American Idol winner and a Disney teen multi-platform star, obvs) and with even more sour-faced expressions in the video. We still prefer Demi's throaty, uncomfortably pained version of the song, but we feel like before all is said and done, we'll be inundated with renditions a lot less professional and pretty than Jordin's. Good of her to set the bar high.
