After two weeks at the top, PSY's "Gentleman" slips to second place on the official GAON singles chart this week. The electro-pop hit is replaced by Roy Kim's seasonal single, "Spring Spring Spring," which debuts at No. 1.
While PSY's small slip in Korea isn't too bad, "Gentleman" takes a much bigger tumble in America, nosediving 5-26 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song only managed to stay in the top ten for one week, as opposed to the 12 that "Gangnam Style" spent. The huge drop is a combination of decreased digital sales and streaming points, as well as American radio's continued reluctance to embrace PSY and his latest single. The 35-year-old rapper's scheduled to embark on a heavy U.S. promo tour this month, which will hopefully turn things around for the now struggling "Gentleman."
Back to the K-pop charts, Cho Yong-pil's new single, "Hello," debuts at No. 4, while new OST singles from Akdong Musician and Baek Ji Young, "I Love You" and "Spring Rain," debut at No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.
As for this week's new chart debuts from idol acts, Juniel's "Pretty Boy" arrives at No. 12, 4minute's "What's Your Name?" follows at No. 17, and SHINee disappoints at No. 32 with "Why So Serious?." Expect all three songs to rise next week once they've got a full seven days' availability under their belts -- especially 4minute, who has been performing surprisingly well on the digital charts. Sadly, there's little hope of SHINee turning "Why So Serious?" into anything more than a minor top forty hit, but that's what they get for releasing their new album without Jonghyun.
Songs that have dropped down the chart this week include Jay Park's "JOAH" from 17-24, Girl's Day's "Expectation" from 20-27, and saddest of all, D-Unit's underrated "Thank You," which falls 56 places to No. 131 in just its second week out.
