Katherine Heigl found being a working mother while on Grey's Anatomy so frustrating, it actually made her angry.
The actress found her incredibly demanding work schedule for the show took her away from daughter Naleigh, now five, in 2009 - and it quickly became unbearable.
“I would come home angry and frustrated that I’d missed everything with my kid that day,” Katherine told Good Housekeeping. “I didn’t get to wake her up from her nap or do bath time or bedtime. I’d have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up.”
This desire not to miss out on any more of her daughter's life is what made the star decide to take a leave of absence from Grey's, which ended up being a permanent thing. She also infamously dropped out of the Emmy race for the show that had put her on the map.
“I felt like my priorities were messed up. I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first,” Katherine said.
Katherine will return to TV on NBC’s State of Affairs this Fall.
