This Thanksgiving, American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina chose to follow the lead of Scotty McCreery, and many before her during the pre-Idol era, by delivering a slightly flawed performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the pregame ceremonies before the Green Bay Packers-Detroit Lions game in the Motor City. Not only did she screw up the lyrics to our National Anthem, she happened to screw them up on the one day a year when we celebrate that time we stole from the broke bread with the Native Americans. No turkey for you! If it helps, McCreery didn't fare much better in New York, succumbing to a lip-synching glitch during his performance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. But Alaina's flub was bad—it includes a multiple seconds of silence—and even Detroit Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford knew it, immediately lowering his head and opting for a nervous wardrobe adjustment in lieu of letting out a laugh. In terms of damage control, Lauren and Scotty should just record a patriotic duet, have some babies and the public will forgive them in no time. Watch below.

Also, here's Nickelback's relatively inoffensive halftime performance that followed—that fire was intentional, mind you. It's not great, but was it worth the petition? The Lions are good now, Detroit! Focus your energy on the NFC North.
