Leann Rimes' chilling delivery of the iconic holiday tune "Carol Of The Bells" was a sure-fire highlight at last night's (Nov. 7) CMA Country Christmas special taping. From Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, the starlet took the stage in a sultry white gown to deliver the haunting song, backed by an orchestra and mini-choir. Moments before, fellow country singer and host Jennifer Nettles introduced the performance, praising Rimes for her nearly-pinpoint vocal perfection. After laying into the lyrics with fervor and grit, the singer ultimately earned the fastest standing ovation of the evening, and rightfully so.
Rimes returned later in the three-hour taping to sing "Someday At Christmas," which is also featured on her new One Christmas: Chapter One EP. "Carol Of The Bells," "Silent Night Holy Night" and "Blue Christmas" are also included.
The star-studded lineup also included performances by Steven Tyler with Brad Paisley (for “Run Run Rudolph," with video here) Carrie Underwood and Michael W. Smith (on “All Is Well,” which you can watch here), Idina Menzel (“Do You Hear What I Hear,” “White Christmas,” and also “Let It Go” with Nettles), Hunter Hayes (“Merry Christmas, Baby”), Alan Jackson (“Winter Wonderland,” “Let There Be Christmas Everywhere”), Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale (“Mistletoe”), CMA New Artist of the Year winner Brett Eldredge (“What Christmas Means To Me”), Dan + Shay (“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”), Sara Evans (“Go Tell It On A Mountain”), and Nashville‘s Clare Bowen (for a slinky “Santa Baby”).
The 2014 CMA Country Christmas is set to air Dec. 1 on ABC. Check your local listings for more info.
