Nicki Minaj has a strained vocal cord that has forced to cancel a string of shows in the U.K., MTV News reports. Minaj was scheduled to appear at this weekend's V Festival at Hylands Park, slated for Sunday's line-up along with The Killers, Snow Patrol, Tinie Tempah, Cher Lloyd, Rita Ora, and Conor Maynard. This is an unfortunate setback for Nicki following a string of performances Stateside last week, including an outdoor concert on Today and gig at Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Tuesday, the latter of which treated fans to guest appearances from Drake, Foxy Brown, and Lil Wayne, and served as a make-up show for the Young Money fiasco at this year's Hot 97 Summer Jam.
Chalk this up as yet another fallout from all that singing she's been doing lately. According to a statement from her rep, Minaj's "strained" vocal cord has gotten worse since performing Tuesday night against the wishes of her physician:
Nicki Minaj regretfully cancelled her performances at UK's V Festival (Highlands Park, August 18th and 19th) due to strained vocal chords. Despite doctor's orders, she performed on a bruised vocal chord in NY on August 14. As a result, the chord has gotten worse. After her most recent x-ray the doctor advises she rest her voice for a few more days.
Minaj is hardly the first headlining act to bow out of publicized events because of vocal problems. Frank Ocean mysteriously removed himself from the same festival, as well as Coldplay's European tour, last week, while Adele and John Mayer struggled through the latter half of 2011 before undergoing surgery to correct problematic vocal cords.
It's likely Barbz in the U.K. will miss seeing their idol, but fear not: LMFAO is more than willing to fill in. Problem solved! Eh, probably not.
