It's easy to tell when rappers don't feel like giving a music video their all. Rick Ross will just rent some expensive cars and stand around rapping next to them, Flo Rida will just take a camera with him on vacation, and Nicki Minaj, well, when she's not feeling it she'll just cut together doc footage of herself interacting with other famous people and call it a day.
Just like the "Did It on 'Em" clip, Minaj's new video for "Come on a Cone" plays like a two-minute game of Spot the Celebrity That Nicki's Hanging Out With Now. As with Minaj's Anna Wintour boast in the track ("When I'm sitting with Anna, I'm sitting with Anna / Ain't a metaphor punchline, I'm really sitting with Anna") the star power on display is meant to bowl us over—and it does, we guess. Being famous looks fun!
Who's Nicki chilling with this time? Here's the rundown:
WAKA FLOCKA FLAME AND TYGA:
AMERICAN IDOL'S RANDY JACKSON:
JAY-Z AND BEYONCE:
To be sure, there's also a little bit of rapping and mean-mugging at the camera, so the clip is not a total waste. But it's the latest example of the bifurcation of Nicki's career. "Pop Nicki" has high-concept, glossy videos, "Rap Nicki" has throwaways that look like they were made in a day. Guess that means "The Boys" is officially a pop song now?
But all that's irrelevant to the video's larger aim: advertising Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up. Only a few more weeks!
