N*Sync "Bye Bye Bye" Lyrics Breakdown...In Case They Reunite For the VMA's

Like PopDust on Facebook

Rumors have been flying over the past few days that everyone’s favorite puppeteering boy band, N*Sync, would be reuniting at this Sunday’s VMAs. Unfortunately, on his radio show, Lance Bass all but denied the rumors, saying the hypothesizing probably started with a photo he posted to his Instagram of himself, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick together at Justin Timberlake’s concert with Jay Z in Florida. And while there was no flat-out denial, it’s more than likely that we should kiss our dreams of an N*Sync reunion… “Bye Bye Bye.” Kindly enough, N*Sync has provided just the song for the occasion.

I'm doin' this tonight,

You're probably gonna start a fight

I know this can't be right

Hey baby, come on

We’re thinking this is from Lance’s perspective last night: He made the damning comments on the radio, and he knew fans would be disappointed by the news. And while Lance knows it’s not right of N*Sync to deny their fans a reunion for so long, hey baby, come on—what can he do?

I loved you endlessly,

When you weren't there for me

So now it's time to leave and make it alone

I know that I can't take no more

It ain't no lie

I wanna see you out that door

Baby, bye, bye, bye...

Ouch. N*Sync seems to have some built up resentment toward their fans and their dwindling love in recent years. While other ‘90s favorites such as the Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, and New Kids on the Block have reunited recently, N*Sync stayed shelved in favor of Justin Timberlake’s solo career and whatever JC Chasez wants to call this. Now that their target audience has moved on to the likes of One Direction and The Wanted, N*Sync can’t take it anymore and is saying goodbye to the fans they once loved—for good.

Bye, bye

Don't wanna be a fool for you

Just another player in your game for two

You may hate me but it ain't no lie,

Baby, bye, bye, bye...

Bye, bye

The fivesome won’t stand to be anyone’s second choice. They feel like they’re too easily replaceable this days, as if they’re just filling an empty spot where any boyband could go. So instead of stooping to that level, they’re hedging their bets and willing to take on the fans’ resentment by refusing to reunite.

Don't really wanna make it tough,

I just wanna tell you that I had enough

It might sound crazy,

But it ain't no lie,

Baby, bye, bye, bye

Really guys, they’re not lying. They’re not playing coy. There’s no reunion planned. They’re not trying to be mean, it’s just blunt honesty. They know it’s crazy to not capitalize on the boyband rejuvenation, but seriously—it’s not happening.

Just hit me with the truth,

Now, girl you're more than welcome to

So give me one good reason,

Baby, come on

I live for you and me,

And now I really come to see,

That life would be much better once you're gone

Why the staunch refusal? Well, harsh as it may be, the band has come to the realization that their lives will be better without the constant reunion speculation. So try as you might to convince N*Sync to reunite, the reality is that they’ve seen the post-fangirl light, and it is heavenly.

I'm giving up, I know for sure

I don't wanna be the reason for your love no more

Bye, bye

I'm checkin' out, I'm signin' off

I don't wanna be the loser and I've had enough

N*Sync is prideful. They won’t try in vain to win back heartthrob status, and they don’t want to play second fiddle to Justin Timberlake’s solo performance. They’re sure. They’ve thrown in the towel, and now all that’s left for us to do is despondently watch reruns of their music videos.

The full lyrics are below. You can listen to the song at the bottom of the post!

Hey, hey

Bye, bye, bye

Bye, bye...

Bye, bye...

Oh, oh..

I'm doin' this tonight,

You're probably gonna start a fight

I know this can't be right

Hey baby, come on

I loved you endlessly,

When you weren't there for me

So now it's time to leave and make it alone

I know that I can't take no more

It ain't no lie

I wanna see you out that door

Baby, bye, bye, bye...

Bye, bye

Don't wanna be a fool for you

Just another player in your game for two

You may hate me but it ain't no lie,

Baby, bye, bye, bye...

Bye, bye

Don't really wanna make it tough,

I just wanna tell you that I had enough

It might sound crazy,

But it ain't no lie,

Baby, bye, bye, bye

Just hit me with the truth,

Now, girl you're more than welcome to

So give me one good reason,

Baby, come on

I live for you and me,

And now I really come to see,

That life would be much better once you're gone

I know that I can't take no more

It ain't no lie,

I wanna see you out that door

Baby, bye, bye, bye...

Bye, bye

Don't wanna be a fool for you

Just another player in your game for two

Baby Bye, bye, bye...

Bye, bye

Don't really wanna make it tough,

I just wanna tell you that I had enough (ooh ooh)

It might sound crazy,

But it ain't no lie,

Baby, bye, bye, bye

I'm giving up, I know for sure

I don't wanna be the reason for your love no more

Bye, bye

I'm checkin' out, I'm signin' off

I don't wanna be the loser and I've had enough

I don't wanna be your fool

In this game for two

So I'm leavin' you behind

Bye, bye, bye...

I don't wanna make it tough

But I’ve had enough

And it ain't no lie

Bye, bye

Don't wanna be a fool for you

Just another player in your game for two

But it ain't no lie

Baby bye, bye, bye...

Don't really wanna make it tough

I just wanna tell you that I had enough

Might sound crazy,

But it ain't no lie,

Bye, bye, bye
