This Is Not A Drill: Playboi Carti Is Finally Dropping A Mixtape.

It only took you two years' worth of hype, Playboi.

It's been a long ride since April 2015, when Playboi Carti first blew up all over the Internet with his hit song "Broke Boi," produced by MexikoDro, and this ride's about to take a wild left turn. Fans know Carti for being extremely sparse with his releases, only having a couple of loosies floating around on Soundcloud. And I think we can all agree, we've totally played "Fetti" and "Pump Fake" to death these last two summers.

But I'm 100% not kidding: Playboi Carti is finally releasing his mixtape. And he's doing it tonight.

Carti has released 2 singles in order to generate buzz, "wokeuplikethis" and "Faster," both featuring his rap-game BFF/soulmate Lil Uzi Vert. Just this afternoon, he released the entire tracklist and "New Choppa" featuring A$AP Rocky, featured below.

The tracklist is as follows:

1. "Location" (prod. by Harry Fraud)
2. "Magnolia" (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
3. "Lookin" Feat. Lil Uzi Vert
4. "wokeuplikethis*" Feat. Lil Uzi Vert (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
5. "Let It Go" (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
6. "Half & Half"
7. "New Choppa" Feat. A$AP Rocky
8. "Other Shit"
9. "NO. 9″
10. "dothatshit!" (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
11. "Lame Niggaz" (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
12. "Yah Mean" (prod. by Pierre Bourne)
13. "Flex" Feat. Leven Kali
14. "Kelly K" (prod. by Southside)
15. "Had 2"

My podcast co-host/fellow rap psychic Liam and I have definitely been following Cash Carti closely, even giving him a spot in our XXL 2017 Freshmen Prediction list. Need a primer on Playboi Carti? Here are three songs to get you started on one of the more exciting young talents to come out of the ATL.

"Pump Fake" (Prod. by Ethereal)

Ethereal is a monster producer, making beats that groove with a weird neon glow it seems, and his production alone could make for a good tape. Mix that together with Playboi Carti's half-lazy, half-braggy flow? They've got plenty of collabs, but this is absolutely the Certified Hit™. Carti switches flows almost four times during the course of this song, running at almost five minutes long, which is insane for a once Soundcloud loosey rapper like him.

"Ghost ft. Playboi Carti", by Key!

Key! should've been an XXL Freshman at some point, because are we ever gonna forget that his verse on "Look At Wrist" wasn't THE verse of the song? Whatever, I'm over it, I don't even care anymore! But anyway you put it, he's been Team Carti from the beginning, helping the boy get clout with a feature/hook on his song "Ghost." This is a great example of how you can give Carti a weird beat, and soon enough, he'll bang out an earworm of a hook. Also, Key's ad-libs ("CASPER!") during the song really make it for me.

"The Omen" (Prod. by Brandon Thomas)

Brandon Thomas is the evil genius behind beats like OG Maco's "U Guessed It," serving up melodic but menacing production, throwing any rapper for a loop. I saved the best for last though, with Carti spitting over a Thomas' beat for "The Omen," a track that follows you around at night and hides in the shadows. The first time I ever heard this song, I was only just starting to get into Carti, but his presence and delivery on this song were unlike so many other trap artists, while at the same time almost reminiscent of original, spooky trap like Three Six Mafia. The way his voice comes in and out over the track, like you and him are in the same tunnel and he's running after you, but you can't tell if he's in front of you or you're in front of him. The last minute of this song would do well in a '70s movie soundtrack.
