Over the weekend Drake premiered his long-awaited "playlist" More Life. The project had 22 songs ranging from dancehall to R&B to feature-heavy bangers. But can a 22 song project with so little focus really succeed? What's the best of the best? What's the worst of the worst? All that more and more appeared in the crystal balls of our resident Rap Psychics, Miguel and Liam.

Just a quick warning: this review contains language that's definitely NSFW. All that aside, check out their thoughts in the form of a Slack chat below:

LIAM

OK LET'S START

MIGUEL

solid song I think. does what it's supposed to do, gets us hype for the project, but overall not rewriting the Drake formula of "I'm rich, I'm famous, I have sex all the time now"

LIAM

i like the reminiscent vibe

"i fall asleep in sororities/i had different priorities"

reminded me of the the semtex interview

i love hearing about the come up

MIGUEL

there are some clever lines in this song

"I make too much these days to ever say poor me"

also 1 point for a reference to having his phone tapped

LIAM

Yeah Comey stayed silent on the 6gate during the hearing this morning

"watch how you speak on my name"

"No Long Talk" didn't really do much for me

MIGUEL

agreed, Drake's verse sounds good but not a lot actually said

and gigg's does his second worst feature on this track imo

LIAM

but "Passionfruit" really made me feel something. Pretty ideal mix of the marimba/dancehall vibe and the drake-pop banger a la "Hold On We're Going Home" and "Feel No Ways"

MIGUEL

oh for sure

passionfruit had the billboard hit written all over it

LIAM

Giggs must be such a London hype boy to be worth keeping around for that C- feature

like Busta Rhymes on Look At Me Now

I feel like i'm missing something in Giggs

MIGUEL

don't even get me started on his feature in "KMT"

LIAM

we'll get there

but more thoughts on Passionfruit?

MIGUEL

but I feel like with Passionfruit it's sorta indicative of what Drake is going for with this album

like you said a more dancehall/house vibe which isn't bad

but it feels like he's making these songs just for the summer DJ mix playlist

LIAM

I have an unshakable feeling that Drake makes music for live performances and club premieres more than anything now

but that's also where he spends his time so like big ups to him

but kinda blows for studio drake fans

who knew nothing would be the same fr fr

MIGUEL

I think Passionfruit is his best at concentrating himself on pure house/dance music, but a lot of other songs on this seem like his first tries

LIAM

passionfruit definitely feels like the most worked on

MIGUEL

that's one thing in general I wanted to say about the album, it's the same problem as Views, it

*it's literally just too long

last year the conversation I kept having with people re: Views was, "if you had to cut five songs from the album, which would it be?" and with More Life it's almost 10 songs

LIAM

I'm not quite ready to put ten songs on the chopping block but there's a lot of fat for sure

It's weird because the best part of Drake used to be his diversity of sounds

MIGUEL

ha me neither, 10 is definitely exaggerating

LIAM

and now I just wish he would make a concise, thematic piece like If You're Reading This

even if they're all done in the same style

I'd take ten bangers like portland and free smoke

over ten marimba vibe songs

idk if I could actually put up with a purely "dance hall" drake album

so I guess what I'm saying is...

I want another If You're Reading This

hahahaha

MIGUEL

oh absolutely

the problem is even though IYRTITL did have a same style, each song served it's own purpose

LIAM

if you're reading this/views/more life is like when you have a sick weekend lined up

and thursday is surprisingly lit

but then friday and saturday are actually bad

MIGUEL

you can hear Drizzy trying to go for a sound on this album, but he goes for it over three different songs

LIAM

and you didn't even know how much you should have valued thursday

MIGUEL

I'm glad he did not call this an album

LIAM

but yeah I agree with you about the intention behind songs on IYRTITL

there was cohesion

MIGUEL

but I'm also mad he did call Views an album

LIAM

even views lacked cohesion right?

totally agree

let's talk drake vernacular real quick

"slash" "waste mans" "ting"

MIGUEL

a lot of people from the caribbean in toronto

which explains the patois

when I made that connection it actually made more sense to me

because majority of the black population in the UK also speak with a lot of island slang

which I guess could be the common factor between all his different cultural identities ha

LIAM

yeah he's copped like 10 accents for this album

he's a much more global drake now

which also came across heavy in his semtex interview

I saw some memes today

MIGUEL

what are your thoughts on "get it together"?

LIAM

getting on him about copping slang as soon as he hears it

MIGUEL

I did not care at all about "Get It Together," that's not saying it's bad, it's just one of those redundant songs that might as well have been on Views

but then today I saw THREE different girls post a screenshot of that song on their IG story

and I thought "oh that's who that song is for"

LIAM

scoured twitter for the meme but it's lost to the tides of time

yeah it's kind of a frathouse 2-3am song

MIGUEL

it's made for girls to pregame to

LIAM

like "i'm still tryna smash BUT i'm EMOTIONALLY tryna smash"

MIGUEL

hahaha

LIAM

MY SIDE GIRL GOT A 5S WITH A SCREEN CRACKED

made for us to pre-game to, a.k.a. college aged males

if you're not following we're talking about Portland

MIGUEL

yeah Drake finally

a song for the BOYS

LIAM

feat quavo and travis scott

like saturdays, portland is 4 tha boys

MIGUEL

I think the beat is dumb on Portland but I'm waiting to like it

LIAM

is saying /s too much?

i love the pan flute

mask off is just the beginning, peep the popdust panflute playlist, SOON COME

MIGUEL

I like Portland despite the beat

LIAM

the beat's a big plus for me

my fave elements of the whole """""""playlist""""""" are the smooth transitions and interludes, the Skepta interlude goes nicely into Portland

MIGUEL

quavo and travis are becoming the hot duo-but-not-really collab of this year

LIAM

#ReplaceTakeoff2k17

MIGUEL

haha

#FreeTakeoffButSendHimBackEventually2017

MIGUEL

what are your thoughts on "Sacrifices"?

LIAM

Sacrifices is pretty hot

kind of a thoughtless "i ball i bang hot chixxx" banger

but hearing young thug rap like that is a delight

a phrase i'm sure he'd call me a geek for using

MIGUEL

yeah that's what pulled me in at first

but also another hot 2 chainz feature as always

LIAM

he never disappoints

constant as the northern star

any other thoughts or can we move into final thoughts?

MIGUEL

I think we can move into final thoughts

but that's the thing like, if you don't like a song like Madiba Riddim, you won't like Blem, or you won't like Passionfruit

LIAM

which, by the way, I do enjoy

but on a 4 point scale, it's a 3 a.k.a. I like but I see how you could not

that's how I feel about the whole thing

MIGUEL

are you talking about the album as a whole?

LIAM

I like it, probably because I'm a drake lifer, but I get the instinct to turn away in disgust

I was talking madiba riddim at first but it applies to the whole for sure

MIGUEL

lol out of 4 points is the scale?

we're just constantly rewriting the review game

I give this album 13 out of 18

LIAM

and on that note I think we can close this chat

MIGUEL

on a scale of 1 being Wasteman and 10 being an Unruly ting

this is a solid ting

LIAM

probably someone drake would pay to RIM him

but not introduce to his mother or personal trainer

MIGUEL

oh god

LIAM

that might be too much

MIGUEL

are we both thinking of the same definition for "rim"?

LIAM

like the movie about BIG ROBOTS

if that's it then yes

MIGUEL

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rim...

Urban Dictionary
rim
To lick someone's anus with your tongue. Called "rimming" because it's done around the rim of the anus.

that's More Life folks!

LIAM

anyway rap psychics outttt :v:

MIGUEL
