It's The X Factor time, which means it's time for show mogul Simon Cowell to drum up kinda audition-ish controversy! Back in August, he said he'd reject Lady Gaga due to lobster hats and meat dresses. But he went on to say "you hope to God you can find someone like her," don't forget. It's a fakeout, like those furrowed-brow, stern fakeouts he pulls during judging. You know: they usually go "That was by far the most--" pause--"fantastic performance of the night." He'll bait you with beef then offer praise instead.

It works, though, which is why Simon's done it again conveniently during auditions. First he called Lady Gaga "the most boring singer in the world." Oh no! Then he called Beyoncé and Katy Perry boring, too. He's on a diss rampage! Whence these sudden standards? They're certainly not in play this much when he's a judge on the show. Except wait, he starts out with "If you only ever heard Lady Gaga..." and finishes with "You’ve got to see her –- you need TV. Same with Beyoncé. Or Katy Perry. We’re all about image. You have to have that X Factor."

Needless to say, this is a lot different. Of course image is a big part of what makes Lady Gaga interesting--she's said so herself, proudly. And as for the other part, there's your headline: Simon Cowell Says Lady Gaga Has "That X Factor"! That's also an exaggeration, but at least it's an exaggeration more in the right direction.
