The "Sonic the Hedgehog" Trailer Is a Nightmare

Between Jim Carrey's handlebar mustache and Sonic looking like a sleep-paralysis demon, who asked for this movie?

You didn't ask to hear Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" ever again or to see Jim Carrey's handlebar mustache—but now both are here, and we'll all get through this together.

Ben Schwartz voices the blue speed demon in Paramount's unsettling "live-action" version of Sonic the Hedgehog. Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) teams up with "juvenile delinquent Sonic the stop Dr. Eggman [played by Jim Carrey] from completing his plans for world domination." Directed by Jeff Fowler and with a budget of $90 million, Sonic is expectedly quirky, irreverent, and disturbingly alien ("basically, I'm gonna have to save your planet," he tells Tom with a teenage eye roll). But frankly, with Detective Pikachu making 90's kids' dreams come true in May, live-action Sonic the Hedgehog looks more like a Game Boy-induced nightmare. The blue demon hits theaters on November 8.
