The video has already been acclaimed as visually stunning, and is the sixth from her album 1989.
It was shot on location in New Zealand, showing Swift in a variety of threatening situations, wearing a pale blue gown from an old 'Modess, Because' ad that transforms into a mini dress in the final scenes. She is chased by a pack of beautiful wolves who don't turn into super-models but look pretty damn fabulous.
The tension mounts as Taylor jumps or falls from a steep cliff, only to plunge underwater where she writhes around before going on to perform some yoga positions and finding herself entwined by reeds that look like snakes.
For a moment, bound by reeds/snakes, one worries that she is playing Joan of Arc, but nothing happens, echoing the emotional arc of Taylor's artistry.
In the end, standing on a beach, she finds herself. Literally. Words appear on the screen like the last lines of a fairy tale, explaining:
She lost him. But she found herself. And somehow that was everything.
Swifties, who is the Him she lost??
Everyone else, check out the implants.
