French fashion houses were once associated with glamor and sophistication, but that image is eroding fast, thanks to Kimye and crew.
We can't give Kim Kardashian and Kanye West all the credit for ruining Givenchy, but they've certainly played a large role. If you weren't sure about the illustrious brand's demise, reputation-wise, just read about Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci's birthday party in Ibiza over the weekend.
The 40 year old designer's star-studded bash was attended by the usual aging super-models but dominated by hip-hop artists and reality stars decked out in tired black Givenchy garb that ought to be hanging in Ross 4 Less. Justin Bieber's Givenchy sneakers may cost $950, but who wants to be caught dead in them at this point?
Kanye serenaded the birthday boy but first made this eloquent statement:
“Me and Virgil and Don would see your work and think, ‘This is the dude that’s in Paris that’s making shit that the ‘hood can relate to.”
It's hard to think of another luxury brand so thoroughly cheapened in such a short time. Versace was linked to Euro-trash after Donatella got her hands on it but still ranks as a reputable international fashion house.
Givenchy even has its own category on UpscaleHype, a cheesey online magazine about 'celebrity fashion and the high-end lifestyle.'
Seeing reality TV matriarch Kris Kardashian waddling in her giant Givenchy high-tops is a sight no eyeball should ever have to endure. Look away, fashionistas!
At least there's still Dior. Let's hope thee idiots leave us something to covet and aspire to.
