Technically, 50 Cent's new "freestyle" isn't really a freestyle—it's conceptually sound and most certainly pre-written. Either way, it's easily the most cunning and hilarious 50 song in many years. In a crowded field, and with all apologies to Kanye, 50 remains hip-hop's most schizophrenic character: still undeniably hard and street, but schoolgirl-anxious to shout out Oprah and her bestie Gayle King, and pump up penny stocks via Twitter. He may no longer be relevant, but he's no dummy—labeling your new polished track "a freestyle" is a shrewd way to hold onto your street cred while trying to claw your way back into the pop realm.
