2014 is not the year of some random animal. No, it's not the year of the Tiger, the Rooster or even the Dragon. No. It's the year of Nostalgia. Now that the '90s are safely more than a decade behind us, it's been the media's job to unearth all those TV shoes, fashion statements and movies that defined our childhood--by our, I mean us Millennials. To keep that ship sailing, the now-iconic Saved By The Bell series (1989-1993) is returning in a new form; this time to Lifetime.
Following the 2009 tell-all book by cast member Dustin Diamond, who wrote about threesomes and drug activity onset, this forthcoming movie is slated to reveal even more behind-the-scenes during the show's too-short run, Buzzfeed reported this week. “[The series] delves into the experiences of six unknown young actors placed into the Hollywood spotlight, exposing the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky-clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen," reads the official press release.
Robin Lippin, the original casting director for the series, returns and has found pretty convincing actors to play the actors of the series. Are you with us so far? The report also states that the producers hope to change the way we all think about the original.
Here is the Lifetime movie cast, with links to their IMDB pages:
Dylan Everett (of Degrassi: The Next Generation) as Mark-Paul Gosselaar
Sam Kindseth (of Shameless) as Dustin Diamond
Julian Works (of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) as Mario Lopez
Alyssa Lynch (a newcomer) as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen
Tiera Skovbye (of Supernatural) as Elizabeth Berkley
Taylor Russell McKenzie (of Blink) as Lark Voorhies
The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story will premiere on Lifetime on Sept. 1 at 9/8c.
