Video Of Benedict Cumberbatch Trying To Pronounce 'Penguins' Is Adorable!

As super sleuth Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch can unravel even the most mind-blowing crimes, but in real life he can’t figure out how to pronounce the word “penguin.”

That’s a major problem for the British actor, as he happens to be the voice of a little feathered guy in the upcoming film, The Penguins of Madagascar.

It may seem “elementary” for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic character, but it’s just damn adorable for everyone else to listen to Cumberbatch struggle with the word in a newly-released clip from a 2009 BBC Two documentary he narrated about wildlife, including royal penguins, on the South Pacific islands.

In the YouTube video, the Star Trek Into Darkness villain blunders through his narration, pronouncing “penguins” as “pengwings” or “penglings” over and over again.

We appreciate the laugh at Cumberbatch’s expense, but really hope he’s learned how to pronounce the word properly by now, or else there's going to be a whole lot more laughs when The Penguins of Madagascar hits theaters on November 26.
