Adele will move closer to eclipsing Katy Perry as the most beloved and frequently covered artist on Glee on Tuesday, when newly formed McKinley group The Troubletones take on two of her 21 tracks that have yet to be featured on the show. Santana (Naya Rivera) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) will perform "Rumour Has It" and "Someone Like You" in the upcoming "Mash Off," furthering the retro vibe that their Shelby Corcoran-led girl group is establishing for itself. While we'd expect Santana to take the generally sassier, more upbeat "Rumour Has It," with Mercedes connecting on the makes-Adele-cry "Someone Like You," the ladies' solos are switched around, allowing Santana the opportunity for a softer, more controlled performance, along with longing glances directed Brittany's way, while Mercedes can blow off any remaining anger in the form of necessary diva growls. Theirs is a seamless transition between Adele tracks that feels like it shouldn't work, but does, really, really well. Did The Troubletones get a larger costume budget? Those dresses are much more appealing than anything the poor girls in New Directions have ever worn. Watch below.
