Inside Weight Watchers Med+: Clinical Care, Nutrition, and Coaching

Editor’s Note: Today, our editors take a closer look at Weight Watchers Med+, the company’s clinical weight-loss program. What we found looks almost nothing like the Weight Watchers we thought we knew. Keep reading to learn about our first impressions and what Med+ members are saying, or skip to our final verdict.

The Program

Weight Watchers is 60-plus years old, but it looks almost nothing like the program most people picture. Today, Weight Watchers offers three membership tiers: Core, Core+, and Med+.

Med+ is its most comprehensive option, combining access to GLP-1 weight-loss medication with nutrition guidance, behavioral support, and digital tools.

A Med+ membership includes:

  • GLP-1 medication support — where clinically appropriate, licensed clinicians can prescribe medications such as Wegovy®, Zepbound®, Ozempic®, or the newer oral options such as Foundayo® (orforglipron) as part of a member’s care.1
  • Virtual care from board-certified clinicians and registered nurses, available nearly around the clock.
  • Help with cost and coverage — a coordinator who handles GLP-1 prior authorizations, refills, and stock checks, plus cash-pay options and access to FDA-approved brands.1
  • Nutrition tools that keep up — protein and macro targets, AI food scanning, restaurant guidance, and an AI Body Scanner.
  • The GLP-1 Success Program, included — dietitians, side-effect support, coaching, and a community that gets it.

Our First Impressions of Med+

Many people have tried diets or weight-loss apps that didn’t stick. We weren’t expecting Weight Watchers to be the 2026 fix. We showed up expecting pre-packaged food, public weigh-ins, and paper trackers.

Today, Weight Watchers is a modern, app-based weight health platform that combines behavioral support with clinical care. The biggest surprise wasn’t that it offers access to GLP-1 medications. More and more programs do that today. We were more interested in what happens after someone starts treatment.

That’s exactly where Weight Watchers stood out: over 12 months, Med+ members reported over 30% more body weight lost, on average, than members of select competitors.2 Here, the medication is the beginning, not the whole thing.

Because a GLP-1 really only does one job – it quiets the “food noise” and reduces appetite. But when that noise goes quiet, new questions show up: What do I eat now? How do I get enough protein, preserve muscle, and build habits that outlast the prescription? That’s the gap Med+ is built to fill, surrounding the medication with registered dietitians, habit coaching, side-effect support, practical tools in the app, and a community that says the quiet parts out loud.

But company claims are one thing. We also wanted to hear from people who’ve actually lived on the program.

What Med+ Members Say

Maria — 61 lbs lost on Med+

Maria went from 224 to around 163 pounds over about a year. She says the GLP-1 helped reduce her inflammation and bloating almost immediately, and she never felt like she had to give up the foods she loves. As she put it, “sourdough is officially back.” She also credits AI food scanning and macro breakdowns as game-changers, saying she “finally understands nutrition labels.” Another standout for her was the support with insurance. She says her care team helped her successfully appeal her coverage for medication.

Branneisha — 126 lbs lost on Med+

Branneisha spent years doing everything right and still couldn’t get her body to cooperate. She says “the biggest change, outside the weight loss itself, has been my energy levels.” She also says Weight Watchers helped her understand how to support her treatment by focusing on protein, fiber, hydration, and managing side effects. She also pushes back against the idea that medication replaces healthy habits. She says she still tracks her food, exercises regularly, and prioritizes balanced meals. As she puts it, “the GLP-1 just made all that hard work finally count.” 3

Kaytlyn — 80 lbs lost on Med+

“The biggest difference of going on the Med+ has been the support,” she says. Weight Watchers helped her understand how much protein she needed to help maintain muscle, by giving her access to practical guidance inside the app and clinicians she could message or meet with when questions or side effects came up. Having her prescription, tracking, and care team all in one app kept her momentum going. Her biggest non-scale victory? Being able to “live, and feel good in my body” – golfing, skiing, playing pickleball, and hiking again, none of which felt possible 80 pounds ago.3

The theme in all three experiences: the medication got them started, but the education and support are what made it stick.

Final Verdict

Med+ earns our recommendation because it treats weight loss as a lifestyle change, not a prescription. Eligible members can access FDA-approved medications prescribed through Weight Watchers Med+ by licensed clinicians, alongside nutrition guidance, coaching, and regular follow-up care.¹

But the reason we’d recommend Med+ to a friend is the broader support built around it. In Weight Watchers’ own research, members on a GLP-1 who regularly engaged with the GLP-1 Success Program lost 29.1% more body weight, on average, than those who didn’t.4

It’s built for every stage of a GLP-1 journey – clinicians for access, insurance coordinators for the paperwork, dietitians and coaches for the daily habits, and a community for everything in between. Instead of asking members to piece together different services, it keeps those resources connected within a single platform. For those who want medication support alongside the structure to build lasting habits, few programs we looked at pack this much into one place.

Weight Watchers Med+ plans start at $25 for your first month, then $74/month on the 12-month plan (or $84/month on the 6-month plan).5
