HelloFresh — A Game-Changer For The Festive Season
Editor’s note:Normally, when the holidays roll around, I tend to stuff myself on junk food and takeaway. So much so, my diet goes out the window. This year, I took the easy way out and signed up for HelloFresh. Keep reading to find out how it changed my life…
What the ghost-of-holidays-past looked like. Or, before HelloFresh:
I’m sick of my kitchen! It’s hardly my favourite room in the house. I love food, but I hate the chopping, the simmering, the roasting. In short, the cooking. So, I avoid complicated recipes — especially during the busy festive season.
My one exception? Preparing the holiday dinner feast. Beyond that, I go to holiday parties, or order in, or graze on leftovers. I know it’s the indulgent season, but I had to change my eating habits so I don’t fall into that old trap this year.
As we head into the holiday festivities, I decided to whip up something festive, filling, and healthy. I scrolled about on my phone and found a simple recipe for Hearty Chicken Stew
with potatoes and pesto — yummm. Gathering the produce and spices did take me a while, and the bill ran up far more than expected. Then there was all the time it took to prepare the soup — hours I will never get back.
I invited my neighbor over for a light dinner and wine. I was thrilled when she told me my meal was scrumptious! But she said it was quite similar to a recipe from HelloFresh — a Cooking Box delivery service that ships pre-portioned ingredients right to your door each week. As delicious and festive as my soup was, it seemed like I’d put too much effort into it. She urged me to try a more straightforward solution. And HelloFresh could be just that — so I immediately hopped on my phone and signed up. Then we toasted, “to HelloFresh. Let the holidays begin!”
Here’s what my festive season looks like after HelloFresh:
It’s so refreshing that the HelloFresh box is customizable. I chose my plan, how many recipes I wanted a week (3-5), and the number of servings per recipe (2-6). I picked the Family plan for two, 5 times a week.
With 19+ recipes each week, I can explore fantastic international cuisines like Asian, Mexican, Italian, and so much more. There are a few warming winter and festive recipes like their mouth-watering Christmas Roast Turkey Dinner with balsamic bacon Brussels sprouts and roast potatoes — I never liked brussels sprouts before this, and this is splendid.
My box arrived with everything pre-portioned, including the precise amount of sauces and spice packets. So I significantly reduce food waste! Plus, their boxes are entirely recyclable.
The best part? From prep to plate, my HelloFresh dinners only take about 30 minutes. It used to take that long just to find the right ingredients.
Over the week, I tried the Thai Style Chicken Curry with courgette and fragrant rice and the Hazelnut Crusted Turkey and Cranberry Sauce with broccolini and potato dauphinoise which truly got me in the festive mood. Plus, their meals start at only €2.50 per serving — incredibly affordable.
Final Thoughts:
With HelloFresh I’m totally in the holiday swing. I’m spoiled for choice with their wide range of quick-n-easy, tasty and well-balanced meals.
