Renee Rapp Throws Shade at ‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ in New Song
Some celebs make a point to credit the roles or people that launched their careers. Others downplay or even mock the moments and people that catapulted their fame. Is that the case with Renee Rapp? Well… it kinda, sorta seems like it! But… her reasoning arguably has some serious validity.
The blonde beauty just dropped a new single called “Leave Me Alone,” and it’s brimming with alleged trash talk against The Sex Lives of College Girls. As a reminder, this show brought positive attention to Renee’s name, but she doesn’t have the fondest memories of her time on set.
Did Renee Rapp Throw Shade at The Sex Lives of College Girls?
In Renee‘s song “Leave Me Alone,” the lyrics are the very definition of scathing. She sings, “Sign a hundred NDAs, but I still say something. Leave me alone, b****, I wanna have fun. I took my sex life with me, now the show ain’t f***ing.”
Here’s why this rumored shade from Renee is especially spicy. The Sex Lives of College Girls got canceled after its third season, and it wasn’t picked up by any other networks. After Renee parted ways, the show began losing traction. Plenty of fans across social media platforms have admitted that Renee was the main reason they tuned in in the first place.
- “I’m actually so sad Renee Rapp left the show, and I feel like venting about it.”
- “Everyone loves Renee, and she has a huge fan base. This is definitely a loss for The Sex Lives of College Girls.”
- “I started watching the show for Renee‘s character, so it feels super empty without her.”
Was it the right move for Renee to leave The Sex Lives of College Girls, though? You might think so after hearing about her experience. She described it during a Call Her Daddy interview in 2023.
Renee said, “I’m on a show [where] there are a lot of men around. There are a lot of gay men around. There are a lot of straight men around. There are a lot of older men around me on set. So I’m going through set, doing these scenes, and I’m also having gay men come up to me and be like, ‘So are you, like, really gay?’ I was like, ‘Ugh!’ … It really f***ing pissed me off, and it made me second-guess everything about myself.”
For clarity, Renee is openly bisexual. The issues she faced while filming The Sex Lives of College Girls are completely inappropriate. Based on what Renee dealt with on that set, it makes sense that she would want to quit the show without ever turning back.
The Sex Lives of College Girls certainly helped build her fan base. She also starred in the Broadway version of the Mean Girls musical, along with the 2024 screen adaptation. Movies and TV shows haven’t exactly been on her radar since then, though. Is she ditching acting for a career as a musician now?

Renee’s experience filming The Sex Lives of College Girls sounds like a behind-the-scenes nightmare. Based on the lyrics of “Leave Me Alone,” there’s a chance she might be ready to move on from acting for good.
A quick scroll through Renee’s Instagram reveals that music is a massive deal in her life. She’s got pics of her stage performances, clips from professional music videos, and evidence that she enjoys spending time in music studios.
We’ll have to wait and see what’s next for Renee’s career, whether she opts for more acting projects down the line — or not. For now, it appears recording new music has stolen her heart.
After all, “Leave Me Alone” makes one thing clear: Renee has no problem speaking her truth — loud and unapologetic.
